Community Outreach: Harvest Manitoba Food Bank Volunteering

This year’s student council would like to make an effort to positively impact our communities. With the coming and “going” of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts on peoples’ livelihoods and affordability of essentials, we aimed to help those in need by donating essential items in December (We would like to express our gratitude to those who made donations. Big or small, your donation will surely help someone in need) and we plan to extend our contributions into the new year by donating our time to Harvest Manitoba (Formerly known as Winnipeg Harvest) by helping them sort out their donations.

This activity will be open to staff and students, so please help spread the word to other non-student members of your lab or administrative team!

MMID Student Council

MiSC Undergraduate Journal Club Workshop: Calling for Graduate Volunteers

The undergraduate microbiology student club (MiSC) has asked MMID student council to help them plan a journal club with graduate students (poster attached). This event would involve graduate students virtually presenting their journal club to a breakout room of undergraduate students. Please note that volunteers are not expected to make a new presentation, but rather to present their already-made 2023 journal club presentation. The goal of this journal club event is for undergraduates to get an idea of what journal club is and the journal club process.  The event will take place Tuesday, March 28th 6 – 7 pm over Zoom.

We are looking for 3 volunteers to present their journal club and 3 volunteers in to help with the discussion.

HSGSA is introducing a new* teaching opportunity for Rady
Students. Due to the remote locations of our health science
institutions, there are limited opportunities for Rady Faculty students
to engage undergrads in academic teaching activities. To address this
issue, we are rolling out a new training program called the
“Multidisciplinary Health Research Experience” (MHRE) program;
a
training opportunity for undergraduate students to learn about the
different disciplines of health sciences that are otherwise not
available to them at the Fort Garry campus.
